WhatsApp Introduces Custom Chat Themes for iOS Users

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a fresh customization option for users on iOS devices. Reports indicate that the messaging platform has begun deploying a chat theme feature, enabling users to choose from various chat colors and wallpapers to enhance their messaging experience. This feature was initially identified in August when the platform was still refining it. While some users have already noticed this feature on their devices, its release appears to be limited for now, with broader access anticipated in the near future.

The chat theme feature is reported to be accessible in the newest version of WhatsApp for iOS, version 24.20.71. For many users, the addition remains subtle, yet the feature tracker noted that a number of users have discovered the new customization option within the application. A screenshot showcasing the interface has also been shared, providing insight into the feature.

This new customization option permits users to modify two main elements. Firstly, users can adjust the chat color, which encompasses the colors of message bubbles, the background beneath the text input field, and the header area. Secondly, they have the option to change the chat wallpaper, which is the backdrop for the text messages.

The feature tracker has detailed that there are 20 chat color choices, showcasing a variety of attractive pastel shades, and 22 wallpapers featuring distinctive designs and patterns. Users on iOS can apply a single chat theme to all conversations or choose specific themes for individual contacts. The possibility of using external wallpapers remains unclear.

Notably, unlike the direct messaging feature on other platforms, applying a chat theme in WhatsApp will not be visible to the recipient. This makes it a personal customization choice, allowing all users to enjoy their preferred chat themes without affecting others' settings.
