The saga of Star Citizen is filled with challenges and controversies. Despite being in development for more than a decade, the game has shown minimal true progression towards its long-awaited launch. There are ongoing allegations regarding the treatment of employees at the studio in charge. It is reported that staff at Cloud Imperium Games often experience heavy workloads, contributing to the numerous grievances that plague the company's development timeline. Surprisingly, the financial investments in this project have outstripped the box office earnings of many Marvel films.

Concerns about the management at CIG are prevalent, especially regarding financial oversight and the allocation of tasks necessary for a productive work environment. The studio has a reputation for extravagant spending, prioritizing the visual aesthetics of the game's universe over practical functionality. Such decisions hint at a concerning oversight from senior management, reflecting a disconnection from the fundamental needs of game development.

Compounding these issues is the complex engine built for the game, often referred to disparagingly as a jumbled assortment by several team members. This makes it challenging to work with, even during optimal moments. With constant maintenance required for various engine features, the delays in development only worsen.

The unpredictable leadership style of Chris Roberts, the head of CIG, poses another significant hurdle. This detrimental environment has caused many to move on without regret. Currently, a majority of the workforce comprises younger individuals who lack extensive experience, which has led to a toxic culture as they navigate the demanding expectations placed upon them.

Looking ahead, the future of Star Citizen appears ambiguous. Unless significant reforms are enacted within CIG's management system, the likelihood of successfully delivering the game anytime soon remains bleak.
